Water Damage Remediation For Dummies
By Jim Corkern
Close your eyes and conjure up the smell of the air after a rainstorm. Picture the beautiful rainbow. The world feels brand new. Until that is, you discover the flood in your basement. After the initial panic and rush to save whatever you can, you must act quickly to restore your water damaged area back to its original condition.
1)Protect yourself from any electrical hazards, by turning off the supply of electricity and unplugging appliances.
2)Immediate steps should be taken to move objects away from, or at least above the water to prevent staining and moisture absorption. This can be accomplished by relocating them to another room or by placing plastic or possibly small blocks of wood underneath them.
3)Minimize the water damage as reasonably as you can by getting rid of as much of the standing water as possible. Think towels, think wet/dry vacuum, think fans, just think DRY. A common mistake to avoid however is raising the heat in your home in the thinking dry process. Excessive heat and rapid drying can lead to cracking

Procter & Gamble alumni still claiming top jobs
They are a helpful bunch, former employees of Procter & Gamble Co. It?s been about a month since we asked for help in updating our list of P&G alumni who claimed top leadership posts with other companies. And we?re happy to report that our list has grown by 20 people. It?s now over 200 and hopefully still rising. Among the new names on the list are Brian Driscoll, recently announced as CEO of Diamond Foods Inc., and Tom Moore, CEO of the Princeton, N.J.-based biotech firm, Advaxis. Macy's CEO Lundgren: 'The customer is voting with us'
<img src='http://assets.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/Terry_Lundgren_Macys*100.jpg?v=1'>The Macy?s Inc. annual meeting today was a celebration of the retailer?s rebirth. Chairman and CEO Terry Lundgren noted in prepared remarks that Macy?s began its reorganization in 2008 and 2009 and became ?an all-new company.? ?Fast-forward to today. The customer is voting, and they?re voting with us because our year has been quite good,? he said. Quite good, indeed. and warping. Especially vulnerable are artwork, antiques and musical instruments.
4)The above-mentioned drying tactics may seem fairly simple. It is important to remember though, that the water can penetrate the structural components of your home, leaving saturated areas behind. It’s hard to think of wall interiors, ductwork, insulation, and crawl spaces when you’re trying to evacuate and dry sentimental photo albums and other family heirlooms. But among other things, these trapped pockets of water can promote mold growth along with the telltale musty odor of water damaged areas.
5)In any water damage cleanup situation, it is vital to obtain the help of a professional restoration contactor. Trained water remediation experts and their equipment will make a huge difference in your flood cleanup efforts. They use a combination of dehumidification and air movement to safely dry your possessions and your structure.
Rest assured that natural disasters are not an everyday occurrence and there is a good chance that you will not likely encounter water damage from this source. Nevertheless, it is good to be prepared and armed with the information necessary to begin the water damage remediation process swiftly and intelligently.
